The Queensland State Tennis Centre is the first tennis facility in the state to featuring all three ‘Grand Slam’ surfaces: grass, clay, and acrylic hard courts. The concept design required weather protection for the championship size show courts, hypar spectator structures, and compliance with international tennis standards. The major design consisted of two identical turtle-back shaped canopies, fully framed with CHS curved arches, edge beams, and integrated steel trusses held up by one column in each corner. Each shade structure is clad in tensioned PTFE membrane, patterned and fabricated into one piece per structure.
