Boeing Amberley
THE PROJECT
Boeing required a sheltered working environment as part of the Amberley Airspace Facility to maintain its 747 fleet of aircraft. The contract required Fabritecture to develop a method for fabric installation and tensioning, to be completed prior to lifting the roof into place.
Openings for specially designed lifting points at four corners of the structure were left uncovered, allowing the majority of fabric membrane works to be completed in an adjoining field to the site, at ground level. Once complete the structure was then positioned with the use of trucks and cranes, onto four columns standing 18m high.
